Setters is an iPhone app for making AI creators and short videos with them. Setters is made and run by Kirill Sidorets, an independent developer based in London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described here.
The short version
- To make a creator, a photo or a video, Setters sends what you gave it (your creator's photo, descriptions, scripts, product photos) to AI providers through fal.ai. Setters asks for your permission before it sends anything for the first time, and you can turn it off in Settings.
- Your creators, photos and videos are kept on your Setters account, so they come back after a reinstall or on a new iPhone.
- No ads, no tracking across apps and websites, no selling of your data. Setters uses PostHog to see how the app is used, with every image hidden from its recordings.
- Delete Account in Settings removes your account and everything on it.
1. What we collect
- Account. On the first launch Setters creates an anonymous account with a random ID, so your work and credits are kept safe. If you use Sign in with Apple, we also receive from Apple a user identifier, your email address (or Apple's private relay address, if you choose to hide yours) and, the first time, your name if you choose to share it.
- What you create. Your creators (name, look, portrait, which is the photo you picked if you made one From photo, voice and the description you wrote), the photos and videos you make, and how each was made: the product, scene, placement, framing, script and AI model.
- Products. The product names, links and photos you add. They are kept on your iPhone and sent to AI providers only as part of a photo or video you ask for (see section 2). When you add a product by its link, your iPhone opens that page itself, as Safari would, to read the product's name, photo and price; the page is not opened through our servers.
- Purchases and credits. Your plan and its purchase, renewal and refund events from the App Store, through RevenueCat, and your credit balance and history. We never see your payment card: Apple handles payment.
- Device check. To give the free welcome credits once per iPhone, the app asks Apple's DeviceCheck for a one-time token and sends it to our server, which asks Apple whether this iPhone has had them and then marks it. Apple keeps two bits per device for us; the token does not identify you, and we keep only a fingerprint of it, to stop it being used twice.
- Generation records. For each photo, set of looks or video: which AI model ran, when, whether it succeeded and what it cost in credits, so we can charge fairly and give credits back when a generation fails. When the safety check refuses a text, we keep only why (for example "violence"), not the text.
- Reports. When you report a video or a photo, which one it was and whose, so we can look at it.
- Usage. How you use Setters: the screens you open and what you do there (for example the creator and answers you picked in the onboarding, the plans you looked at, the photos and videos you made, what Rate Setters says), recordings of your sessions in the app with every image hidden, your device model, iOS version, language and approximate location (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which is not kept). It is linked to your Setters account ID and used only to understand and improve Setters.
Some things happen only on your iPhone and are never sent to us: finding the face in a portrait to frame it, cutting a product out of its photo (both with Apple's Vision framework) and the "your video is ready" notifications. Setters uses the system photo picker, so it sees only the photos you pick; the camera opens only when you take a photo in From photo, with your permission; and it asks for permission before it saves a video to your Photos library.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, microphone, browsing history or advertising identifier.
2. AI providers
Setters makes your content with AI models run by other companies. When you start a generation, the app sends the request through our server to fal.ai (United States), which runs the model itself or passes the request to the company that made it:
| What | Models | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Creator looks | Nano Banana (Google) | The description you wrote, gender, age and style |
| Photos (shots and storyboard frames) | Nano Banana (Google); GPT Image (OpenAI) for a creator made from a photo | The creator's portrait, product photos and name, the scene, placement and framing you chose |
| Voice and sound | ElevenLabs | The script and the voice you picked |
| Rewrite (the script) | Gemini Flash Lite (Google), through OpenRouter | The script, the product name, the kind of video and the tone, when you tap Rewrite |
| Storyboard (the script) | Gemini Flash Lite (Google), through OpenRouter | The storyboard's frames (small copies), the product name, the kind of video and the tone, to write a line for each shot |
| Product name from a photo | Gemini Flash Lite (Google), through OpenRouter | The product photo you add, to fill in the product's name |
| Product size | Gemini Flash Lite (Google), through OpenRouter | The product's name and photo, to tell whether it can be held in one hand, for a shot or a storyboard frame |
| Safety check | Gemini Flash Lite (Google), through OpenRouter | The texts you wrote (product name, script, description), before any other model gets them, to refuse what our Terms of Use forbid |
| Video | Kling (Kuaishou), MiniMax, Mirage, OmniHuman and Seedance (ByteDance), depending on the model you choose | The shot, the voice track and, for some models, the script |
Your name, email address and Apple ID are never sent to AI providers. Please do not put personal details, such as someone's phone number or address, into descriptions, scripts or product photos.
Before Setters sends anything to AI providers for the first time, it asks for your explicit permission. Without it Setters cannot make new content. You can withdraw your permission at any time in Settings, About, Share with AI (or by writing to us); Setters then sends nothing more and asks again before it makes new content.
These providers process your data to return the result you asked for, under their own terms, and may keep it for a limited time for security and abuse prevention. Some of them process data outside the United Kingdom and the European Union, including in the United States and China.
3. Other service providers
- Supabase, with servers in Frankfurt, Germany: your account, what you create, credits and the server that talks to AI providers.
- RevenueCat (United States): subscriptions. It receives your anonymous Setters account ID and your App Store purchases.
- PostHog, with servers in the European Union: product analytics and session recordings. It receives your anonymous Setters account ID and the usage described in section 1, never your photos or videos.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store payments and DeviceCheck (whether this iPhone has had its welcome credits).
We share data only with these providers and the AI providers above, only so they can run Setters for you, or when the law requires it. We do not sell or rent your data and do not use it for advertising.
4. Why we use it
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, these are our legal bases:
- To provide Setters (our contract with you): your account, keeping your content, generations, plans and credits.
- Your consent: sending your inputs to AI providers. We keep when you gave it and which version of the consent you saw.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping Setters secure, preventing fraud and abuse of credits, enforcing our Terms of Use, handling reports of harmful content, and understanding how Setters is used so we can improve it (usage data and session recordings, which you can object to by writing to us).
- Legal obligations: when the law requires us to keep or disclose data.
5. How long we keep it
- Your content and account stay until you delete them. When you delete a creator, photo or video in Setters, it is removed from your account too.
- Delete Account (Settings, About, Delete Account) removes your account, your creators, photos, videos and credits from our servers at once. Copies in our backups disappear as the backups roll over, within 30 days. If you signed in with Apple, Delete Account also revokes Setters' access to your Apple ID. Deleting your account does not cancel your App Store subscription: cancel it in your Apple ID settings.
- Sign Out removes your content from the iPhone. It stays on your account for the next time you sign in.
- Apple and RevenueCat keep purchase records under their own policies. Write to us if you want your RevenueCat record removed.
- Session recordings are deleted automatically after 30 days. Other usage data is kept while it helps us improve Setters; write to us to have yours removed.
6. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to receive it in a portable format, to restrict or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Write to sidoretsk@gmail.com (if you use Sign in with Apple, write from the email on your Apple ID so we can find your account). We answer within one month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or the authority where you live in the European Union.
7. Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). On our servers every user can reach only their own rows and files, and your photos and videos are kept in private storage. The keys to the AI providers stay on our server, never in the app.
8. Children
Setters is for people aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used Setters, write to us and we will delete their data.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. For important changes we will tell you in the app before they apply.
